The diverse ecosystem developed by the mangrove forest

Thailand is located in the tropical areas, with high temperatures throughout the year. Its natural environment has uniquely evolved to adapt to its climate, such as the vast mangrove forests spreading out along the coasts of Thailand. The original mangrove forests provided a safe area for small fish, crabs, shellfish, and shrimp. This project has been launched to support the recovery of the mangrove forests.

Towards the reforestation of the mangrove forests

In the past half century, however, the mangrove forests have been rapidly diminishing due to the expansion of shrimp and salt farms. From 1961 to 1996, Thailand lost approximately 56 % of its mangrove forests. Since then, its indigenous ecosystem has been faced with the threat of extinction. This deforestation could also endanger the lives of the local people who live in the coastal areas, where tsunamis pose a real threat. To improve this situation, BROTHER COMMERCIAL (THAILAND) LTD. (BCTL) began to provide support for mangrove reforestation in 2009.

The expansion of the tree planting activity

Through this project, we had donations equivalent to approximately one thousand mangrove seedlings, helping build a "Bamboo Wall" to protect seedlings against waves, and have planted fifteen hundred seedlings so far. Those which were planted in 2009 have been steadily growing, and a small ecosystem has started to inhabit the mangrove forests. In 2014, a total of two hundred and twenty six people including employees, clients, students, and participants gathered via SNS to participate in the tree planting activities.

We at BROTHER COMMERCIAL (THAILAND) LTD. (BCTL) aim to win the respect of all our stakeholders. Together with our business partners, employees at BCTL and their family members can protect the beautiful environment in Thailand. Through this mangrove reforestation project, we have come to realize that we could improve the public awareness of environmental conservation in this community. I believe that our effort to mangrove reforestation will lead to a positive result.

Since I’ve taken over this mangrove reforestation project from my predecessor, this is the first time I have participated in the tree planting activity. I worked hard with many other participants, conducting research in the devastated mangrove forests, and sorting seedlings. We still have a long way to go to restore the original mangrove forests in Thailand, but the seedlings we’ve already planted are growing, green areas are being expanded, and aquatic life is successfully increasing. I will continue to devote myself to the mangrove reforestation project.

Project Note

Protecting and developing the diverse ecosystem with Brother's employees

This project was launched to support the recovery of the mangrove forests. Primarily we make donations, help build a "Bamboo Wall" to protect seedlings against waves, and plant trees. Those which were planted in 2009 have been steadily growing, and a small ecosystem has started to inhabit the mangrove forests. We cooperate in order to increase awareness of the environmental activities, through the employees themselves participating in this project.
