Brother conducts the 16th tree planting activity and an investigation of growing conditions at “Brother Forests in Gujo”
On October 17th, Brother carried out the 16th tree planting activity at “Brother Forests in Gujo,” located in Gifu-Prefecture, Japan. A total of 82 participants, including Brother employees, their family members, joint research members in Nagoya University, and staffs of the Gujo city office and a forestry association. These participants conducted this activity, divided into tree-planting groups for planting seedlings and checking groups to determine the growth of trees planted in the past activities.
The tree-planting groups planted seedlings in a new area where no seedlings had been planted until then, and also complemented the area where planted seedlings had not taken root well with additional seedlings. They this time were able to plant 250 seedlings in total.
On the other hand, the checking groups, each of them had three people, measured the thickness of tree trunks and the height of trees, targeting 250 trees planted in the past. They also trimmed trees, unwinding vines which prevented the growth of trees.
There was an interim report meeting after the activity. The participants earnestly listened to the reports by professor Takano of Nagoya University and other speakers. They dealt with the investigation results of growing conditions, including the survival rate of each species and the progress of growth since 2008.
Some of feedback from the participants said: “I have realized there are two types of trees, one that shows significant growth since the last activity in spring, and the other that shows the opposite result. “ “It was a new discovery for me to find each species shows a different survival rate.” “I think we can choose an optimal way to conserve ecosystems such as making grasslands in the areas where trees cannot take root well.”
Brother will continuously promote ecosystem conservation activities at “Brother Forests in Gujo.”
